When does the event officially start and finish?

The event officially starts on Thursday 13 September at 5pm for the Welcome Drinks and Dinner and Registration at The Rhum-Ba at Port Denarau. The event official ends after the Awards Dinner and Party on Sunday 16 September at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, but if you are around the next morning (Monday 17 September) we have an optional Swim Relay you can attend at the Sofitel Beach at 9am. Are flights and accommodation included in the Event Package price?

No, you will need to sort your flights and accommodation separately. Check out our flights and accommodation deals here and contact our Travel team to discuss your travel and book.

Do I have to stay at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa and fly Fiji Airways to attend?

No. You can choose who you fly with and where you stay but note that a number of functions, clinics and coach pickups take place at/from the Sofitel and our Travel Team have secured great rates with this hotel and special airfares through Fiji Airways.

How do I secure one of the 200 swim event packs or 100 supporter event packs?

Simple – click here. The first 200 swimmers and the first 100 supporters to complete the entry form and pay their $495 deposit will be winging their way to Ocean Swim Fiji.

I want to swim and have a holiday. Can I do this?

Absolutely. The event runs from Thursday evening 13th of September to the early morning of Monday 17th. You could choose to arrive into Fiji a few days prior and/or stay a few extra days after to get the swim/holiday balance that’s right for you. There are even a few cruise options that begin just as Ocean Swim Fiji ends. Make contact with our travel team and completely customise your swimcation.

Do I have to buy a Supporter Pack to attend?

To join registered swimmers at all of the swim locations, attend functions, enjoy lunches and dinners and many other exclusive benefits you’ll need to purchase one of our 100 Supporter Packs. If you’d prefer to laze by the hotel pool in Denarau and do your own thing you are still more than welcome to come to Fiji with your swimming companion but will not be able to enjoy the benefits of a Supporters Pack.

How much is it to bring children if they aren’t swimming?

Best have a read of the question above first to help here. Children between the ages of 4 – 15 years (as at the day of the event) are NZD$599. Children under 4 years old (as at the day of the event) are free.

I’ve paid my deposit, what’s the best way to book my flights and accommodation for the event?

Our travel team have managed to secure fantastic flights and accommodation packages through our event partners which will be passed on to everyone attending the event. Contact the Ocean Swim Fiji travel team here to arrange your booking.

What swimming ability do I need to take part?

Most of the swim field will be social/recreational swimmers. If you can swim the distance you have entered competently in the ocean, then you’ll be fine. See question below re cut off times.

I want to come but I’m a slower swimmer; are there cut off times I need to be aware of?

Everything is pretty relaxed in Fiji and so will we be, but if you’re still in the water swimming 45min after the start of the 1km and/or 2 hours after the start of the 3km we’ll need to give you a quick lift into our safety boat so you are nearer to the finish line to finish.

What do the swim courses look like?

These will be provided to registered swimmers prior to the event. Courses will be set off the beach/islands.

What’s your policy with event withdrawals and transfers?

Your Event Package (Swimmer or Supporter), including any deposits paid, is not refundable but your entry can be transferred to another person prior to 30 June 2018 for NZD$75.00

When is the balance of my Swim Pack or Support Pack due?

Can I wear my wetsuit?

Wetsuits are optional – but we strongly suggest you won’t need it. The water temperature averages a minimum of 24 degrees at this time of year. Please note that people wearing wetsuits will be excluded from the age group or overall competition but will receive a finisher's medal.

What is the minimum age to take part in the event?

10 years for the 1km and 12 years for the 3km. All swimmers must be competent swimming their entered distance in the open water. Age is as at the start date of the event. Younger swimmers with exceptional ability may be accepted at the sole discretion of the Event Director Scott Rice.

How many meals does registration cover?

Your registration covers four meals: Dinner 13/9, Lunch 14/9, Lunch and Dinner 16/9. You are responsible for all other meals. View the Full Swim Pack

Am I responsible for any transportation?

Entry includes:
  • 7-day Bula Bus Pass
  • Chartered ferries to Tivua island (Swim 1) and Malamala Beach Club (Swim 3)
  • Chartered bus to Natadola Beach (Swim 2)
You may use your Bula Bus Pass to transport yourself to catch the ferries and to the Sofitel for the bus if you are staying elsewhere. Airport transfers are not included and must be organized as part of your flights/accommodation bookings. View the Full Itinerary.

Absolutely! We have 100 supporter’s packs available here which allows your family to travel with you out to the islands.
